The Cincinnati Reds signed shortstop Richie Martin and lefthanded reliever Alex Young to minor league contracts Tuesday, which included invites to big-league camp in spring training.
Martin, 28, played with the Baltimore Orioles for the last four seasons. He brings plus speed and a strong arm, but he’s struggled offensively since he was the first player taken in the December 2018 Rule 5 Draft.
A first-round pick by Oakland in 2015, Martin played 120 games with the Orioles in 2019. He appeared in 37 games in 2021 and 13 in 2022 before he was designated for assignment last September.
