Kyle Boddy, the Cincinnati Reds’ minor league pitching coordinator, wasn't sure if there would be a ton of value in a month-long instructional league considering all the pandemic restrictions and costs.
He knew it would be beneficial for prospects to finally play in some games and receive hands-on coaching, but he thought they accomplished a lot with their remote training methods throughout the summer despite a canceled minor league season.
Then it exceeded all of his expectations.
“I was like I really undervalued it,” Boddy said. “It was awesome. Basically, I went in thinking it was going to be a good thing to do and then after a month there, I think we all wished that we brought more players or something because I think we all underestimated how valuable it all was.
