Cincinnati Reds may continue to use piggyback/opener setup with Miley and Mahle

Tyler Mahle warmed up Wednesday night like he was going to be the starter, even though Wade Miley was going to start the game.

It was the Reds’ version of the “opener.” Miley went 1 u2154 innings and was pulled at the first sign of trouble. The Reds may continue with the strategy of starting the left-handed Miley and switching to the right-handed Mahle.

“We have a lot of options because of our depth,” Reds manager David Bell said. “(With) Wade, we’re still progressing him back after being injured and still building him up with the short summer camp.
