MILWAUKEE – Realistically, the Cincinnati Reds were eliminated from postseason contention after their 3-22 start to the season, one of three teams in the last century to win as few as three of their first 25 games.
It took until Saturday before the Reds were mathematically eliminated from the National League Central race, sitting 24.5 games behind the division-leading St. Louis Cardinals. The Reds’ elimination number, entering Sunday, for a wild-card spot is five.
The Reds must win seven of their final 26 games to avoid a 100-loss season, something that looked far more likely when they were 3-22.
