ATLANTA – Reds Interim Manager Jim Riggleman says the decision to have Scooter Gennett bunt Monday night in the 10th inning made for a rough night.
Riggleman did so knowing the Atlanta Braves would walk Eugenio Suárez to load the bases, thus putting the game in the hands of Jesse Winker.
Winker ended up popping out, and the Reds lost 5-4 in 11 innings.
“That one causes me to lose sleep over,” Riggleman said. “I’m tossing it around in my mind before the situation comes up. It’s late. We need one run. If we’re looking for more runs earlier in the game, I don’t do that.
