After Mike Bell, a former Cincinnati Reds third baseman and the brother of Reds manager David Bell, died of cancer on Friday at 46, the Bell family said Mike would have wanted the teams he played and worked for to go on with their scheduled games.
Over the following six days, the Reds continued to prepare for the season, and David Bell was able to spend time with his family.
Bell returned to the Reds full time on Thursday for Opening Day, and he said there was no other place he’d rather be.
