Called out on strikes in the first inning Friday, Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suárez didn’t hide his disagreement from home-plate umpire Carlos Torres. Suárez flipped his left hand in the air, walked behind home plate and pointed toward the plate. Suárez and Torres exchanged words as Suárez retreated to the dugout.
In between the first and second innings, Suárez was the first Reds player to return to the field. He argued with Torres around home plate before he walked toward his position. After more arguing, Torres ejected Suárez. Torres appeared to flash four fingers, apparently signaling that he gave Suárez four chances to walk away.
