Shortly after the Major League Baseball season began, the Cincinnati Reds invited infielder Rece Hinds to their alternate camp in Mason.
Hinds, a second-round pick in the 2019 draft, is known for his jaw-dropping power and he’s considered one of the top prospects in the organization. But he wasn’t added to the 60-man player pool and placed in the alternate camp because he was close to the big leagues. The Reds wanted to aid his development after a quad injury limited him to three games in 2019 and the minor league season was canceled in 2020.
There were more prospects like Hinds added to the alternate site in September, including outfielder Michael Siani, infielder Tyler Callihan and 2020 first-round pick Austin Hendrick.
