MIAMI – With two runners on base and two outs in the top of the sixth inning Saturday, Scooter Gennett lined a fastball toward second base.

The ball left Gennett’s bat at 101 mph, the hardest-hit ball of the game to that point. He took a few steps out of the box, hoping it would drive in a run, but instead watched it fly into the glove of Miami Marlins second baseman Starlin Castro.
