Cincinnati Reds: Learning English as a second language takes a team effort

Reds shortstop Jose Peraza, a native of Venezuela, decided this spring that he wanted his voice to be heard more than ever.

Starting in spring training, Peraza, who is in his third year with the Reds, started speaking to reporters in English.

At times, he'll keep team translator Julio Morillo nearby if he has any questions, but the soft-spoken 24-year-old is comfortable enough in his second language that he can conduct interviews without a translator.
