Right-handed reliever J.J. Hoover has won his arbitration case against the Cincinnati Reds, earning a $1.4 million salary for the 2016 season, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.
The Reds had offered Hoover $1.225 million. Why the two sides went to arbitration over such a small difference in figures is anyone’s guess. Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors speculates that Hoover’s durability (63.3 games per year over the last three seasons) played a big role in winning his case.
Whatever the reason may be for going to a hearing with Hoover, the Reds are done with arbitration for the year.
