The Cincinnati Reds invited five minor leaguers to Major League spring training on Tuesday, signaling which prospects are viewed as close to big-league ready.
Left-handed pitcher Andrew Abbott, right-handed pitcher Connor Phillips, first baseman Alex McGarry and third baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand will participate in their first big-league camp. Shortstop Matt McLain, the team’s top pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, was invited to Major League camp for the second straight year.
All five minor leaguers are considered longshots to make the Opening Day roster, but it's an opportunity to work with the big-league coaching staff for at least a few weeks.
