Cincinnati Reds: Interleague play is now pretty common, but players still like its novelty

When the Reds started playing the Cleveland Indians back in 1997, it was a pretty big deal. Twenty-one years and 106 games later, the interleague, intrastate rivalry has lost a bit of its luster.

Since the leagues went to 15 teams each, interleague play has literally become a daily thing. The Reds-Indians game was one of five interleague games being played Monday night.

But the players still enjoy the novelty of it.

"I think it's good," second baseman Scooter Gennett said. "In Milwaukee, we had it with the Twins. I think it's good for the game, good for the fans.
