SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Max Schrock, believed to be a near-lock for the Cincinnati Reds’ Opening Day roster, exited Sunday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a left calf strain.
Schrock grounded out to shortstop to end the second inning and took only a couple of steps out of the batter’s box before he bent over at the waist in obvious pain and threw his helmet to the ground. He immediately hopped after his swing, appearing to injure his calf on his first step or two. He limped to the dugout as manager David Bell and a trainer walked onto the field to check on him.
