Cincinnati Reds Have Likely Seen Last of Sean Marshall

The Cincinnati Reds announced Saturday that left-handed reliever Sean Marshall will have shoulder surgery that will essentially end his season and most likely his career with the Reds. Marshall’s  three-year, $16.5 million contract with the Reds is up at the end of the 2015 season and it’s unlikely that the Reds will choose to renew it.

When the Reds traded for Sean Marshall in 2012, they likely had high aspirations for him as a great arm coming out of their bullpen in the late innings. And there was every reason to believe he would be.
