Cincinnati Reds force extra innings after late rain delay, lose to St. Louis Cardinals

After waiting through a 36-minute rain delay prior to the bottom of the ninth inning Friday, the Reds certainly added some excitement.

The Reds scored two runs in the ninth inning to force extra innings but couldn’t hold off the St. Louis Cardinals in a 7-6 loss at Great American Ball Park.

In the top of the 10th inning, the Cardinals put two of their first three hitters on base against Reds’ closer Raisel Iglesias. Jedd Gyorko, a late-game substitution, hit an RBI single into left field, scoring Marcell Ozuna for the eventual game-winning run.

The Reds have lost 12 straight games to the Cardinals, dating back to last season.
