Yasmani Grandal was signed to a four-year/$73M contract with the Chicago White Sox this past week. Grandal was thought to be very high on the Cincinnati Reds radar, and while the team was rumored to be in the mix for his services, ultimately the 31-year-old backstop chose to sign elsewhere. Rather than sign a free agent catcher, acquiring one in a trade may make more sense.
Tucker Barnhart, the team’s current catcher, is not a bad option behind the plate. Barnhart is one of the better defensive backstops in the league and greatly improved his pitch framing this past season.
