Manager David Bell talks about the Reds' 6-1 loss to the Dodgers and his decision to have Tyler Mahle hit with the bases loaded in the 4th inning. Bobby Nightengale, Cincinnati Enquirer
LOS ANGELES – Trailing by three runs to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday, the Reds loaded the bases in the fourth inning with two outs. Pitcher Tyler Mahle, who had struggled on the mound, walked up to the plate.
Reds manager David Bell said it was a “tough decision.” He thought about taking a chance with a pinch-hitter against Dodgers starter Kenta Maeda, but he knew it would put a strain on his bullpen.
