On Tuesday, the Cincinnati Reds designated for assignment outfielder Wil Myers, their big free agent addition for the 2023 season who wasn't giving the Reds enough production at the plate.
The Reds signed Myers to a one-year deal in December with the idea that the former All-Star would provide a veteran presence in the middle of their lineup. Myers only hit .189, and the Reds' terrific rookie class and emerging young players like Will Benson and Stuart Fairchild have taken away from the at-bats that would have gone to Myers.
The Reds move forward with Spencer Steer, Nick Senzel, Jake Fraley, TJ Friedl, Benson and Fairchild in the mix for every day at-bats in the outfield.
