Facing the Pittsburgh Pirates for the first time since a benches-clearing incident in Pittsburgh, Derek Dietrich brought back familiar memories when he crushed a solo home run in the second game of Monday’s doubleheader at Great American Ball Park.
Dietrich drilled a full-count pitch from Pirates reliever Alex McRae into the final rows of seats in right field in the seventh inning of an eventual 8-1 win. He immediately dropped his bat and watched the ball for a few seconds around the batter's box before beginning his trot around the bases.
