After a benches-clearing incident in April, there may be some more bad blood between the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Eugenio Suárez, leading off the eighth inning at Great American Ball Park, was hit by a pitch on his left hand by Pirates reliever Clay Holmes. Manager David Bell and a trainer checked on Suárez, who walked toward the mound on his way to first base. The benches didn’t clear after Suárez and Holmes exchanged some words.
Suárez exited the game as Bell remained on the field to talk to home-plate umpire Cory Blaser. Bell walked toward the dugout once, apparently waiting for pinch-runner Tyler Mahle to enter the game, before returning to his conversation with Blaser.
