PITTSBURGH — It took all 27 men the Cincinnati Reds were allowed to have on their roster Sunday — as in the 27th man added because of their weather-induced doubleheader — for the Reds to escape PNC Park with a nail-biter split and their first series win anywhere since last month in Los Angeles.
Right-hander Daniel Duarte, added after Saturday's rainout forced the teams to play two games Sunday, was the seventh pitcher used by the Reds in the 10-inning nightcap.
And the last man standing.
He struck out Jack Suwinski, then got Henry Davis on a grounder to short and Eury Rodriguez on a routine fly to center to end the Reds' 6-5, extra-inning victory that salvaged a split after 4-2 loss in the opener.
