The Cincinnati Reds, still searching for an Opening Day shortstop, continue to add depth to their roster.
The Reds claimed catcher Deivy Grullón off waivers from the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. They now have 33 players on their 40-man roster.
Grullón (pronounced DAY-vee grew-YOHN), who will turn 25 in February, has played in five Major League games. He appeared in four games with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2019 and one game with the Red Sox last season.
The Reds sought additional depth at catcher behind Tucker Barnhart and Tyler Stephenson after they non-tendered Curt Casali and Francisco Peña signed a minor-league contract with the Oakland A's this offseason.
