SAN DIEGO – The Cincinnati Reds' injury situation went from bad to worse when Tyler Stephenson exited in the first inning Tuesday following a collision at the plate.
San Diego Padres first baseman Luke Voit ran into Stephenson when he tried to score on a double to left field. Stephenson caught the relay throw from shortstop Kyle Farmer in foul territory, then he was immediately hit by a sliding Voit, causing his mask and helmet to fly off his head.
Stephenson lay on the ground for about 30 seconds as Reds trainer Tomas Vera checked on him.
