The future is now.
The Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday made that call with the promotion of baseball’s top prospect — shortstop Elly De La Cruz — for the start of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Great American Ball Park.
It’s the most anticipated major-league debut for a Reds players since at least Jay Bruce 15 years ago.
He’ll be the eighth player overall to debut for the Reds, following Monday’s six scoreless innings pitched by Andrew Abbott.
De La Cruz takes Nick Senzel's roster spot.
