The Cincinnati Reds promoted catcher Tyler Stephenson, one of the organization’s top prospects, and designated Matt Davidson for assignment on Tuesday.
Stephenson made his MLB debut earlier this season and it was one to remember. He went 2-for-2 with a homer and a walk. Stephenson will start some games at catcher and he will fill Davidson’s spot as one of the top right-handed bats on the bench when he’s not in the lineup.
“The coaches have talked a lot about the progress he’s made on both sides of the ball and really felt like the time was here to give him a chance,” said Dick Williams, the Reds’ president of baseball operations.
