ST. LOUIS – The Reds sent right-hander Tanner Rainey back to Triple-A Louisville and called right-hander Austin Brice back up.
Rainey, the 25-year-old right-hander, gave up eight runs on five hits in the Reds’ 19-4 loss to Cleveland on Wednesday. He needed 44 pitches to get two outs.
Rainey touches 100 mph.
“He’s going to be fine,” Reds manager Jim Riggleman said. “It’s a mystery to all of us that he gets hit like he does.”
Brice, the 26-year-old right-hander, came to the Reds in Dan Straily deal with Luis Castillo last offseason. Brice was 1-2 with a 6.
