GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Anthony DeSclafani can see the bright side. In a game blighted by Tommy John surgery, he’d avoided a death sentence for the 2017 season. His ulnar collateral ligament was just sprained, not severed and rolled into a little ball.
He’ll miss a month or two at least after being shut down from throwing for four weeks, but he should pitch for the Reds this season. That’s something.
“It’s a month or two compared to 15 months, a whole year,” DeSclafani said Wednesday. “I’m so glad I had the chance to get back out there and compete with the team and it’s this year.
