This is the fourth in a series of stories on the winners of the fan vote for the Reds All-Time Team:
After the Cincinnati Reds picked Barry Larkin out of Moeller High in the second round of the 1982 draft, Larkin turned down a bunch of money and went to the University of Michigan instead. The plan was to play football and baseball. Larkin disappointed Bo Schembechler by opting for baseball only.
Were the Reds put off by Larkin’s rejection?
No. They picked him again in 1985 – this time with the fourth pick overall – even though they had picked a shortstop, Kurt Stillwell, with the second pick overall the year before.
