Cincinnati Reds pitching prospect Hunter Greene, who was sidelined for the entire 2019 season after he underwent Tommy John surgery, was added to the team's 60-man player pool Wednesday.
Greene was the No. 2 pick in the 2017 MLB Draft and it appears he's back to full strength. He reportedly reached 101.5 mph with his fastball in a bullpen session this summer.
Adding him to the player pool allows him to work with Reds minor league coaches at Prasco Park in Mason, their satellite camp. The 20-year-old hasn't pitched above Class-A Dayton. Reds manager David Bell didn't rule the chance for him to contribute in the Majors this year, but the main goal is to aid his development.
