GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Looking to add more depth in the infield, the Reds signed shortstop Jose Iglesias to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training Saturday.
Iglesias, 29, hit .269 with five home runs, 48 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 432 at-bats with the Detroit Tigers last year. He arrived at the Reds' complex in Arizona on Saturday, completing a physical. He will wear No. 4.
He has a .270/.315/.363 slash line over seven big league seasons. He's played 610 of his 650 games at shortstop.
"No. 1, he just provides really great depth," Reds manager David Bell said.
