The Cincinnati Reds acquired Tampa Bay Rays prospect Riley O'Brien in a trade for left-handed reliever Cody Reed on Friday. Reed was designated for assignment on Monday.
O'Brien, a 25-year-old right-handed pitcher, was added to the Reds' 60-man player pool and will report to Prasco Park in Mason. O'Brien was rated as the No. 20 prospect in the Rays' organization by MLB.com and No. 24 by Baseball America.
An eighth-round pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, O'Brien had a 3.16 ERA in 20 appearances (17 starts) at High-A and Double-A in the 2019 season.
