CHICAGO — The Cincinnati Reds have shown a preference for an eight-man bullpen all year. That led to Friday's roster move.
Right-hander Matt Bowman was recalled from Triple-A Louisville, and outfielder Phillip Ervin was optioned back to Louisville. Ervin was brought up because Yasiel Puig was dealing with a sore shoulder. Puig was back in the lineup Friday.
"For the majority of the season, we've had that number of relievers," Reds manager David Bell said.
