The Winter Meetings were canceled this year because of the pandemic, but the annual Rule 5 Draft continued with its normal schedule.
The Reds did not select any players in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft, ending a five-year streak of making at least one selection, though they immediately traded their 2017 pick, pitcher Brad Keller, to the Kansas City Royals.
“We definitely had a handful of guys on our list and all were taken before our pick,” Reds general manager Nick Krall said.
The last time the Reds had a Rule 5 pick remain on their roster for an entire season afterward, which is a requirement to keep them in the organization, was catcher Stuart Turner in 2017.
