DAYTON – Striking out five batters in three innings Thursday, left-handed pitcher Nick Lodolo showed why he was the first pitcher taken in the 2019 MLB Draft.
Lodolo, making his debut for the Class-A Dayton Dragons, fired 93-95 mph fastballs. He spun a sweeping slider that froze hitters for called strikes. He flashed an 88-mph changeup that drew a swing and miss.
