Before the top of the fourth inning on Saturday, Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Brandon Williamson looked as good as he has been all season. He was setting up his fastball for strikeouts at the top of the zone. He was getting big swings and misses with his changeup. He was locating his slider in the strike zone.
It all changed with two outs in the inning as a clean start snowballed into a loss for the Reds’ rookie starter.
The Blue Jays beat the Reds, 4-3, at Great American Ball Park on Saturday night. Williamson allowed three runs in the fourth inning while facing the bottom of the Blue Jays lineup, and then he allowed the go-ahead homer in the fifth inning to Blue Jays designated hitter Davis Schneider.
