Before making his final rehab start with Triple-A Louisville earlier this month, Cincinnati Reds left-hander Brandon Finnegan underwent an MRI. The Reds wanted to be sure he was fully healed from his strained teres major muscle before returning him to the majors for the first time in more than two months.
That scan came back clean, but the baseball gods can be quite ugly sometimes. On Monday, in his first start back from the disabled list, Finnegan left with no outs in the first, clutching his upper arm. On Tuesday, further tests revealed he’d injured the same muscle in the same way, but in a different spot.
