GOODYEAR, Ariz. – There was a time in the not-too-distant past that the season like Aristides Aquino had in 2019 would have guaranteed him a starting job with the Reds in 2020.
Aquino, after all, he had one of the greatest months in team history, hitting 14 home runs, driving in 33 and putting up a .767 slugging percentage in August. Given his talent and his ceiling, the Reds would have looked past his later struggles and given him the right field job.
But these are not your rebuilding Reds.
The club added free-agent outfielders Shogo Akiyama and Nick Castellanos.
