CHICAGO – After the Reds were shutout for six innings by Chicago Cubs starter Yu Darvish in Wednesday’s series finale at Wrigley Field, their offense finally had a chance to strike against the bullpen.
Trailing by two runs in the seventh inning, Scooter Gennett reached on a fielder’s choice and José Iglesias followed with a one-out single. It was the first time all day they had two runners on base and fewer than two outs.
An over-the-shoulder catch by Cubs center fielder Albert Almora Jr. provided the second out. Next up was pinch-hitter José Peraza, which ended pitcher Sonny Gray’s day in a push for more offense.
