Aristides Aquino, in a major slump offensively, gaining respect with his arm

LOS ANGELES – Aristides Aquino has thrown out two runners at the plate this season and Gavin Lux didn’t give him an opportunity to raise that number to three.

Three innings after Aquino tossed out Justin Turner at the plate with a one-hop throw, Lux tagged at third and paused when Aquino caught a fly ball with medium depth in the fifth inning Friday at Dodger Stadium. Third-base coach Dino Ebel stood halfway down the line for a better view, but he put up the stop sign once Aquino secured the catch.

“When I’m playing defense and they have men in scoring position, I just want somebody to hit the ball to me,” Aquino said, “because I have a good arm.
