or: Why has Jason Marquis benefitted from the bats’ outbursts so far this year?
In last night’s 16-10 slugfest (in which the Reds, thankfully, came out ahead by two field goals), the story was clearly not the pitching. Starters Jason Marquis and Mike Fiers combined to allow 13 runs over 9 innings pitched, and the bullpens were not much better, allowing 5 and 8 runs, respectively, as they covered the final nine (total) innings.
The real story was the way the ball was jumping off the bats – the Reds’ a little more than the Brewers’, but as the final score suggests, both teams were quite adept at driving in runs last night.
