Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell tried to show his faith in struggling closer Amir Garrett by bringing him out of the bullpen with a three-run lead in the ninth inning.
The move backfired and the Reds dropped their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Garrett surrendered a game-tying, three-run homer to former Reds utility player Josh VanMeter and then the wheels fell off in the 10th inning in an 8-5 loss at Great American Ball Park. The Reds have lost four of their five games against the Diamondbacks this season.
It’s been a disastrous start to the season for Garrett.
