As much as the Reds were searching for their next hitting coach this month, they were looking for somebody who could shape a hitting philosophy throughout the entire organization.
The Reds named Alan Zinter as their hitting coach Thursday after he spent the last two seasons as the San Francisco Giants’ assistant director of player development, which was a newly-created position. He was a big-league hitting coach for the San Diego Padres in 2016-17 and an assistant hitting coach for the Houston Astros in 2015.
