When Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Justin Dunn left Tuesday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals after throwing just 63 pitches, the Reds could have fallen into a pattern that’s hurt them since the trade deadline.
Due to a series of short starts, the Reds bullpen recently has had to carry more weight than it has all season. After Dunn was pulled from the game and completed the shortest start of his season, the Reds needed a reliever who joined the team a few hours before game time to cover two innings.
Derek Law, a six-year veteran who signed with the Reds in early August, shut down the middle of the Cardinals order.
