For a Cincinnati Reds’ starting rotation that ranks 28th in MLB in ERA this season, there aren’t any short-term fixes to address the biggest weakness on the team’s active roster.
Reds general manager Nick Krall has interest in adding to the roster at the trade deadline, but most starting pitching trades don’t happen until the days leading up to the deadline. Prospect Connor Phillips is still developing in Triple-A. Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo aren’t expected to come off the injured list until August.
For the Reds to stay in the playoff race until the rotation can get some reinforcements, the Reds will need improvements out of the pitchers who are currently on the roster.
