Former Cincinnati Red Johnny Bench took to Twitter Monday night to congratulate Kansas City Royal Salvador Pérez on breaking his record for home runs in a single season by a catcher.
Pérez homered against Cleveland to give him 46 for the season. Bench held the record, hitting 45 in 1970. To be eligible for the record, a player must have played 75% of his games at catcher.
"Un hombre muy fuerte! A great man. Congrats" Bench tweeted at Pérez.
Bench followed up with another tweet stating: "As Yogi said #Salvatoreperez @Royals @MLBNetwork I knew my record would stand until it was broken!
