Outfielder Nick Castellanos, the best hitter remaining on the free-agent market, signed a four-year, $64 million contract Monday with the Cincinnati Reds.
Castellanos, the No. 44 overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft, spent six seasons with the Detroit Tigers before he was traded to the Chicago Cubs last summer. His contract contains an opt-out clause after the 2020 and 2021 seasons, which means he can re-enter free agency if he has a strong year.
Known as a bat-first right fielder, the Reds hope he will provide a big boost to the lineup during the upcoming season.
