Aroldis Chapman has found himself in hot water over an October incident. The current Cincinnati Reds pitcher was involved in an October incident that involved Chapman firing a gun repeatedly and accused of choking his girlfriend.
Yahoo Sports is reporting that his actions are holding up a potential trade of Chapman to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Yahoo obtained the police report from the October 30th incident. More than a dozen police officers were sent to Chapman's house after an argument that stemmed from Chapman's girlfriend finding something on his phone.
Chapman admitted to police that he fired eight shots with a handgun. Seven of those shots went into a wall, while one went through a window into an open field. According to the report, Chapman took his girlfriend into the movie theater inside his house and put his hands around her neck, but not with enough strength to stop her from breathing. There was no redness around her neck.
A four-month old child was also present, although it's not clear if the child is Chapman's. However, Chapman has said in the past that the two had a child together. Chapman claims he only poked his girlfriend on her shoulder.
The police didn't make any arrests “due to conflicting stories and a lack of cooperation from all parties involved." Also present was Chapman's driver, who refused to speak with police and the brother of Chapman's girlfriend.
Chapman denied the accusations through his attorney.
"I've reviewed the facts as portrayed," Jay Reisinger, Chapman’s attorney, told Yahoo Sports. "On behalf of Mr. Chapman, we vehemently deny the allegations as stated. Beyond that, we have no further comment at this time."
The Reds also declined comment. It's unclear why this is coming to light a month after the incident, but the possible trade of Chapman surely has something to do with it. The MLB will now investigate the incident, which could ruin Chapman's trade value.
