The Cincinnati Reds are in full-on rebuild mode and are willing to trade pretty much anyone on the team. That includes fan-favorite second baseman Brandon Phillips.
Ken Rosenthal reports the Reds and Washington Nationals are discussing a possible trade that would send Phillips to Washington. The Reds want prospects for the 34-year old Phillips. The second baseman would need to waive his no-trade clause in order for the deal to go through. A move to the Nationals would reunite Phillips with Dusty Baker, who managed the Reds.
Phillips' hefty contract could hurt his value. He's owed $13 million next year and $14 million in 2017. Of course, the Nationals offered Jason Heyward a $200 million contract. They can afford to take on Phillips' contract.
Phillips hit .294 for the Reds last season, with 12 homers, a .723 OPS, 23 stolen bases and 70 RBIs. He is still one of the better fielding second baseman in the league.
