The MLB trade deadline on August 1st is rapidly approaching, and the trade rumors around the Cincinnati Reds are starting to heat up. Cincinnati is 32-57 and in last place in the NL Central. The Reds are one of the worst teams in baseball this season and there's no doubt they'll be sellers at the deadline. With that in mind, here all the latest Reds trade rumors.
Latest On Jay Bruce
With the Reds struggling despite Jay Bruce's strong play, it's not a surprise Bruce has been linked to several trades. Even Bruce fully expects to be traded.
"I said this in spring training, and I’m gonna sound like a parrot, but the Reds would be doing themselves a disservice if they didn’t try to better the organization by trading me and getting prospects," Bruce told ESPN. "I’m not saying that’s going to happen, but they have to be open for business. That’s the mode they’re in right now. I get it. I’ve been around a bit and I understand the game and how it works. It behooves them to take a look into every situation where they can possibly improve the franchise. I’m 29 and all of a sudden I’m not so young anymore. Every player that plays wants a chance to win a World Series, and I think the Reds are a couple of years away from being in that picture again."
The Blue Jays, Nationals and Giants have all already been linked to Bruce, among other teams. On his no-trade list are the Athletics, Diamondbacks, Indians, Marlins, Rays, Red Sox, Twins and Yankees. However, Bruce has said he'd be open to moving to a team on his list that are contenders. Bruce was nearly traded before the season started and with the Reds struggling badly, he should be moved before the deadline. The Reds had agreed to a deal with the Blue Jays for Bruce, but that fell apart because a prospect failed a physical. That worked out for the best, as Bruce's value has only gone up during an All-Star season.
Amir Garrett In Future's Game
Much of the Reds' All-Star week celebration focused on Jay Bruce and Adam Duvall making the roster, and Duvall's home run derby appearence. But the Reds also had a minor league prospect play in the Futures Game: pitcher Amir Garrett. The 24-year-old lefty looked sharp, pitching two scoreless innings. He did walk two batters, but also forced two double-plays. Garrett has been great at Double-A and Triple-A this year, and it's only a matter of time before he gets the call to the big leagues.
